Julian Assange faces extradition hearing on Monday

WikiLeaks founder could be sent to the US to face charges

A British court is set to make a final decision on Monday on whether Julian Assange can make a final challenge against his extradition to the United States.

Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, was first arrested in Britain in 2010 on a Swedish warrant over sex crime allegations that were later dropped. He was then arrested again in 2019 on a US extradition request, which he is now fighting.

The US government has accused Assange of hacking into government computers and publishing classified information, including diplomatic cables and military documents. Assange denies the charges and says he is being persecuted for his work as a journalist.

If Assange is extradited to the US, he could face a prison sentence of up to 175 years. His lawyers have argued that he would not receive a fair trial in the US and that his extradition would be a violation of his human rights.

The hearing on Monday will be the final chance for Assange to challenge his extradition. If he is unsuccessful, he will be sent to the US to face trial.
